Ed's  Ramblings

It has been a long time since the last issue, so a lot to catch up with.

A great time for catching up and enjoying the company of fellow members and classic car enthusiasts is our annual High Tea. Click on the link and let me know you want a seat or more. Menus will be sent out soon.
End of year means what can we expect in 2018. Sneak Peek gives you what we have been working on. Have a look and see.

If you have a great idea for an event that you would like your club to run, please let us know. Members are encouraged to organise events that support the club, for the benefit of all the members. As an MSA
registered club all our events enjoy the benefit of full MSA permits. Remember it's your club and needs your support to flourish, be it organising or entering events.

Not only has your committee been organising the 2018 calendar, they have also found time to support Drive it Day, and the Perth Classic Car Festival, along with other classic enthusiast groups.
The Argyll Festival of Performance has a new format for 2018, and again your club has been asked to organise some of the new for 2018 activities.

We also report on what has happened since our last newsletter, with the story of our Dolomiti Sfida (Dolomite Challenge) continental tour story unfolding as I find some time to publish the next episode. Was it a carefree tour across Europe?

Like all major events it had its moments. Nothing that we could not handle. Being prepared (old boy scout coming out now) is what its all about.

Your club also helped out Herman Zapp and family on their world tour in a 1928 Graham Paige car. Richard Dover to the rescue. no stranger to old cars. His is a 1911 Alldays and Onions, often seen on the RSAC Three Lochs Classic

Looking for a classic car to take part in these events?
Look no futher than your club For Sale pages.

Hope to see you soon for the High Tea, and next year as we start our year with a brand new event, venturing into new areas as yet unexplored by your club.

Past Events
Clyde Valley Rally  -   22 October
We had concerns that storms Ophelia and Brian would be a problem, but the worst had passed, though they had left their mark with standing water and debris on many of the rural roads across the Clyde valley and beyond. Organiser Ralph Forbes put together a great route on roads some of our new entrants did not even know existed. Full Story
Dolomiti Sfida - Continental Tour
The story continues. Secondo and Terzo Stadio, crossing France, Germany, through Switzerland to Italy, on our 3500 mile driving tour across Europe. Visiting 10 countries, climbing countless cols pushing cars and crews to the limit. With plenty of warm sunshine the soft tops were always down.

Lots of excitment on the Crofterra
HCC Crofterra Pandemonia  -  9 & 10 Sept
Members of your committee headed north to take part in this firm favourite in the classic car calendar. Fantastic weekend over many roads not driven on this event before. Almost 400 miles centred around the Moness Resort at Aberfeldy. A wide selection of classic and sporting cars, coupled with more than a few challenging events, made this one to remember.

Grass Gymkhana - 6 August
With a collection of cars spanning almost a 100 years, members of the club met in a grass field at Rumbling Bridge near Kinross. Member George Shand had put together a series of fun Gymkhana activities to test our driving and navigational skills. From judging a gap to drive through, climbing a twisting hill track, to driving a complex course blindfold, and more. There was fun under the sun for everyone. Full Story
CCHMSC help World Travellers on their trip
Call and email arrived on the evening Sunday 3rd September from Herman Zapp, traveling in a 1928 Graham Paige car.

We have been 17 years on the road. Needing to replace a flat window glass from the car and do a bit of welding. Could our club help them out? What a challenge for a Sunday evening.
Did we manage to help? Find out Full Story

Jim Clark Trust  receive £1500 Cheque - 20 October
Highland Car Club's Crofterra Pandemonia event in early September raised £1500 from the raffles run on the Saturday and Sunday evenings. Members Dave Spence and Roddie Main presented the cheque to Ben Smith on Friday 20 October at the Jim Clark Rooms in Duns.

Joining Roddie and Dave was Hugh McGouran, from Teeside ,who is a regular on the Crofterra in his yellow Lotus Elise. Like Jim Clark, a real Lotus fanatic.
