Monte Carlo Historique Rally Finish - 4 February 2012
Report by Jim Paterson

After 2190 miles of hard driving across Europe, with special regularity stages up in the French Alps, often in snow and ice, the successful cars have arrived for the final time in Monte Carlo.

The table below shows how the Glasgow Clydebank starters got on, ZR14 being the finl stage of the event.
Shown are the total points accrued for each car along with the difference from first placed car, the 1978 Opel Kadett GTE of José Lareppe from Belgium on 4614 points and no penalties. José had been running in third place with last years winner Italian Mario Sala in his 1965 Porsche 911, but overtook him on the last special regularity ZR14 to secure the top trophy.

Of the 12 Glasgow starters (No 292 started in Reims but was a member of the Ecurie Ecosse Team), four retired due to mechanical problems.

The 1971 Datsun 240Z of Americans Bradley Mottier and William Hoff retired on the concentration run from Calais to Monte Carlo, as did David and Roger Loveys in the 1950 Allard P1.

The first of the Ecurie Ecosse team, No 292 the 1961 Alfa Romeo Guiletta T1 of David Mustarde and Bernard Northmore were next to retire on special regularity ZR5, again due to mechanical problems. Another Ecurie Ecosse team, No 192 Fiat 124 Coupe of Alan Morton and Milton Ringer retired on special regularity ZR10.

The attrition rate for the Ecurie Ecosse team was starting to bite as  No 299, the Lancai Fulvia Coupe of Steve and Tony Graham bit the dust (or should I say snow) on the last stage of the Monaco Monaco loop which concludes the rally.

Ralph Forbes services Ecurie Ecosse Fiat 128On the bright side 4 of the Ecurie Ecosse team have reached the finish. Team creator Ralph Forbes and Wesley Massam in the 1978 Fiat 128,  John Roberts and Oliver Tomlins in a 1977 Fiat 128 Coupe, Rick Pearson and Stuart Pringle in the 1979 Porsche 924, and Andrew McAlpine and Alexander Proctor in their 1965 Lancia Fulvia Coupe.

But will it be enough to take the Team Prize given the number of other teams in the event. We wait to see.
