The Grand Canal Venice
Our
trip over to Venice started with a bus ride that reminded me of a
London tube, crammed to the doors. Venice is awash with tourists from
every corner of the globe. The crowded buses are a magnet for
pickpockets and several of our party fell foul of their
tricks. Took a bit of the shine off our day. So if your going
to Venice keep your hands in your pockets, money, driving license, and
passports well tucked away, and watch all strangers who come
close to you!
Our day travel pass
covered buses and
water taxis which took us round the Grand Canal to Piazza San Marco,
where we followed the narrow back streets lined with shops selling
expensive fashions to take lunch at Ponto di Rialto.
No trip to
Venice is complete without a trip on a Gondola so six of us piled into
one for a short tour round the narrow canals. These gondoliers are just
like rally drivers, walking on walls to steer their craft round corners
that seem impossible for their size. Watch the low bridges
too.
How these guys never bang their heads on the parapets has to be seen.
Water
taxi and bus back, again like London tube. It never seems to let up.
Like the tube it was hot. 29 degrees today.

Don seems to

experience. Off to Slovenia tomorrow. |
