Ed's  Ramblings

A real disappointment to have to pull the Tour of the Borders this year.
Moving the date to October, from its usual September perhaps had an impact. We moved to avoid a busy calendar in September, but then ran in to other clashes in October. Such is the popularity of motorsport that we run the risk of overlapping event dates.

Sharing dates among all the Scottish clubs may go some way to avoid clashes. The regional association SAMSC may be able to help here.

Stuart Turner 1932 - 2025

We were sad to hear of the passing, on 5 September 2025, of Stuart Turner at the grand old age of 92.

Stuart was a good friend of the Club and generously offered us a lot of support in the early days of the return of the Monte to Scotland. He was a guest speaker at the first pre-rallye dinner in 2011 and gave a talk at one of our club events.

NEWS
Tour of the Borders - 5 October POSTPONED

It was a tough decision and much regret that we had to postpone the Tour of the borders. Unfortunately the number of entries to our final event of this year was well below the minimum listed in the supplementary regs, which made  the event financially unsustainable. We therefore took the decision to postpone the event to the 2026 season.

However the new route is ready to use and will be scheduled into the 2026 events list, likely in September where it has successfully run in past years.

Lookout for the reschedule date in our forthcoming
2026 events listing
Tour of the Trossachs  - 7 September

The gathering showers cleared at Dobbies Garden Centre in Stirling to allow the starters to depart on their tour through the beautiful Trossachs  country. Visiting some of the attractions on route provided opportunities to relax and enjoy the hospitality of the area.

The route explored some new roads across the region, covering approximately 120 miles of interesting and scenic roads, with a good mix of fast and twisting sections. There were a number of suggested points of Interest on the route, including the opportunity to enjoy a a 1 hour cruise on board Steamship Sir Walter Scott, or a 45-minute cruise aboard the Lady of the Lake, on Loch Katrine in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park enjoying the dramatic Scottish Highlands scenery.
