and Motoring - 12 14 15 MarchMitchell Library
in Glasgow run a thrice-weekly event called Mitchell Curious on
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 12.30 – 12.45pm in The
Mitchell Library. The aim is to highlight some of the fantastic
material they have behind the scenes that perhaps people are not aware of.
For
the week beginning Monday 12th March they are focusing on cars and
motoring and will be bringing out a variety of books and journals from
our archives. These will include the following
volumes from our large collection of motoring journals which span the
decades:

Royal Automobile Club Journal (1903) ·
The Motor: Vols 17 & 18 (1910) ·
Motor-Car World: Vol 3-4 (1902-3) and Vol 5-6 (1904-5) ·
Autocar: Vol 2 (1897), Vol 3 (1898) and Vol 4 (1897). They will also be bringing
out some copies of historical patent applications by Carl Benz from 1895 in
relation to Elastic Tyres
and by Henry
Ford for his Motor Carriage from 1901 and 1908.
There will also be books
on :
Aston Martin, Jaguar, MG, Wolseley, Austin 7,
Model T Ford, Mini, British Leyland, Volkswagen Beetle, and Scottish
racing drivers including Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart.
Last
and by no means least they also have a selection of vintage
Pearson’s, Autopress and Haynes Manuals!
All
of these items are available to consult at any time on Level 4 of the
Mitchell.
